While the holidays bring a lot of joy to our lives—eating, drinking and being merry—they also tend to sneak up on us and add a few additional pounds to our waistlines. Whether you’re looking to lose the extra winter weight or you’re beginning your new year’s weight loss resolution, we’ve compiled a list of some of the top gyms and fitness centers in the San Antonio Area to help you begin. Take a look at our list, and who knows, you might just find your new favorite location for getting fit and being active.

1. The District
Are you tired of your typical gym experience, packed wall-to-wall with treadmills and free weights? Do you want to spice up your fitness routine? No better place to do so than The District. Open 24 hours a day, this facility offers 20′ rock climbing walls used for bouldering, which is a form of rock climbing without the use or ropes or harnesses. You can purchase a monthly pass for $40 or get a day pass for $12. The District also offers a variety of group exercise classes including crossfit.

2. EnergyX Fitness
EnergyX Fitness is the first rowing studio in the San Antonio area, which also offers ShockWave, kettlebell, body weight training, IndoRow, TRX and yoga. If you’re unsure about rowing, you can try your first class for free to see how you like it. They also have a good line-up of instructors as well as varied class times to fit a variety of schedules. Membership options vary between purchasing a number of classes, or signing up for a one-month, monthly-recurring, 6-month, or 12-month plan.

3. Mission CrossFit
As you may have already noticed, the crossfit workout trend has taken the nation by storm. To no one’s surprise, crossfit mania has quickly made its way to San Antonio. One of many crossfit gyms in the area, Mission CrossFit offers beginners courses, month-to-month membership options, punch cards, and 3-, 6-, and 12-month contracts. You can attend one of their Free Intro Workouts to get started, and then move onto their Elements Sessions or private training. Mission CrossFit was also named the Best CrossFit Box, Best Massage Therapist, and a Finalist for the Best Gym in the current “Best of San Antonio.”

4. Southtown Yoga Loft
If your goal is to relax, decompress, and better your body, yoga is always a great option in terms of different styles of workouts. Southtown Yoga Loft, located in Downtown San Antonio, strives to “provide an inspiring, non-competitive experience in yoga, creating a community of happy, healthy people interested in taking care of themselves and the world around them. The loft is contemporary, earth-friendly and nurturing.” Southtown offers a variety of classes including Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and even Kids Yoga. The studio also provides a lot of different options for rates and memberships, some exclusively for students.

5. Bella Women’s Fitness
With two locations in San Antonio—Rogers Ranch and Stone Oak—Bella Women’s Fitness provides a no judgment and no hassle experience for San Antonian women looking to improve their fitness. Bella offers their members fitness assessments, childcare serves, tanning, sauna rooms, student and senior rates, and much, much more. They also have personal training, cross training, cycling, kickboxing, hot yoga and hot barre, and group fitness classes, including Zumba and other classes targeting specific muscle groups. 6. Revolution Cycling
With mottos like, “It starts with you,” and “Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try,” Revolution Cycling looks to inspire and motivate riders with music throughout their classes. There are multiple class options to choose from, but Revolution’s signature class is “Rev Ride,” which runs for 45 minutes. San Antonio is one of two locations run by Revolution Cycling, with the second residing in Charleston, SC.

7. CrossFit Lobo
Yet another San Antonio crossfit location, CrossFit Lobo is veteran owned and operated. In their 7,000 sq. ft. location, they operate a wide range of fitness programs including “CrossFit classes, Boot Camp classes, mobility classes, nutritional planning, sessions with an on-site Physical Therapist, and [CrossFit Lobo’s] own nationally-certified Lobo Barbell Club.” Like many of the other fitness clubs we’ve discussed, CrossFit Lobo offers a free trial class for newcomers. Drop-in rates are $20, while a beginner’s course is priced at $75 and a standard month-to-month membership is $175.

8. You-nique Physique
For a more personalized exercise experience, head over to You-nique Physique for personal training, one-on-one pilates, one-on-one reformer and transformer training, and much more. You-nique Physique recently added on the addition of an infrared sauna to their facilities, which studies have shown can be “beneficial by releasing toxins, increasing flow, relaxing muscles, and improving cardiovascular fitness, cardiac output and metabolism.”

9. Lone Star Pilates
Pilates is not for everyone, but those who get into it find that they love it. One of the best places to do pilates in the San Antonio area, whether you’re at an advanced level or just beginning, is Lone Star Pilates.
